BB Power Project Bringing Clean Energy to Riga

Salaspils CHP is a project developed by BB Power, focused on providing renewable energy to Riga. Their biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant supplies heat to the Riga, while electricity is being sold on free market. It's the first biomass CHP project that has been connected to Riga centralized heating system.

Key Features
  • 22 MW Capacity: The plant generates enough power to meet the needs of Riga's residents and businesses.
  • Location: Situated in Salaspils, near Riga, to efficiently deliver energy to the city.
  • Technology: Utilizes woodchip-fired technology to produce energy.
  • Equipment: Equipped with an 19-megawatt steam boiler and a 3.98-megawatt steam turbine.
Impact

It's the first biomass CHP project that has been connected to Riga centralized heating network.

Since starting operations in September 2017, Salaspils has been supplying Riga with heat and selling electric power in free market. This project plays a significant role in reducing Latvia's carbon emissions and enhancing energy independence.

Innovation and Partnership

Developed in collaboration with BaltCap, Salaspils demonstrates how local resources can effectively meet energy demands. This project is a testament to BB Power's commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions.

Future Goals

BB Power is committed to the continuous improvement of Salaspils CHP, furthering the transition to cleaner energy in Latvia. Our primary focus remains on providing reliable energy and supporting a sustainable future for Riga.
